Introduced in 2005, the SCAL Domestic Sub-contract (DSC) is a standardised form of contract for dealings between main contractors and domestic sub-contractors. This legal template enables greater management and administrative efficiency and promoting better understanding across the building and construction industry. To better suit growing business needs, we have updated the contract template to include the following benefits:- Greater Flexibility: The DSC 2.0 includes additional appendices for customisation based on project type—building, civil, or M&E work. - Enhanced Clarity and Efficiency: Clearer guidelines and accessible contractual processes allow for better legal risk mitigation- Balanced interests: Ensures neither main or subcontractors are disadvantaged with a neutral platformThe updated Domestic Subcontract is available online in editable format (.doc). Some of our SCAL's Young Leaders attended the Built Environment Leaders' Retreat 2024 today and were pleased to find the retreat insightful for many. The discussions highlighted the growing role of automation in the built environment, with a focus on drones, robots, and AI software. The session also addressed the challenges of integrating these technologies, such as costs and impacts on existing workflows. Additionally, it emphasized the need for thorough preparation before adopting new technologies and provided valuable perspectives from industry stakeholders. A big thank you to Building and Construction Authority for inviting our SCAL Young Leaders representatives—your hospitality and collaboration made this a fantastic networking and learning opportunity!Khee Hoo Chin Thomas LING Sylvia Chai Kah Howe Seah · 谢嘉豪 ZhengSheng Liang Leonard Goh Yajgapriyan N tobias khng

We had a fantastic time yesterday engaging with Year 3 Civil Engineering students at Singapore Institute of Technology @ Dover! Our council members and young leaders Mr Jacob Wong, Mr Andy Lu, Kah Howe Seah · 谢嘉豪, Irene Lim, BOON WOEI LOO, Khee Hoo Chin led an exciting workshop, guiding students through a series of interactive tasks using LEGO blocks. These activities provided a gamified experience of crucial early-stage construction tasks, including demolition, earth retaining and stabilization structure work (ERSS). Students not only learned about construction sequences but also gained valuable insights into the importance of housekeeping and safety on-site, all while connecting with industry experts. With hands-on learning and real-world insights, SCAL is empowering the next generation of engineers to build safer, smarter, and more sustainable structures. A big thank you to SIT@Dover and Mr King Ing Siau for hosting us and making this event possible. 🙏Interested in more opportunities in the construction industry?
